What future lies ahead for the OFW’s?

Whilst undertaking ship’s news and information articles for our TV mess hall via internet browsing from BBC, Sky news, and leading UK newspapers, I figure out that time comes, we, the so called “Bayani’s” will all return to our native land...

Since 1998, when I landed a job in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and for that two years, I’ve been kept reminding that “Saudization” is due for their nationals.  Years and years come but still OFW’s are coming in and out of the Kingdom.  Why then, there’s still a need of OFW’s?  How come that employer still requires Filipinos?

Obviously, most Filipinos are professionals, skilled and are considered the most hardworking, efficient and loyal workers compare to other nationalities.  Yeah, I will prepare next detailed article about this subject.  Meanwhile, the future seems uncertain due to Middle East Crisis where around 1.5 million Filipinos are working.  There’s an Arab uprising, civil unrest from Arab countries to countries challenging their leaders to step down, the changing systems of government, the conflict and violence between Israel and Palestinian to name a few which affect Filipino labour force.  Here comes the latest news:  Abu Dhabi cuts expat jobs to trim costs, but the highly reason is “Emiratisation” which aimed for boosting national employment.  The question is, are they ready and competitive enough to enter the labour workforce?

Similarly, Europe’s economy seemingly falling where almost half a million Filipinos are working.  In UK alone, cabinet ministers demand companies to give jobs to Britons rather than immigrants.  And the sad part is that most of the European Member countries are selling their assets! Sale! Sale! Sale! Everything must go! If I had a lots and lots of Euros, I will buy some of their assets... why not?

So what is the future for Filipinos and all of the working heroes on earth?  The coming months and years will reveal the truth, but only God alone will tell, the one who holds our future.
